UnipriNT - Network Printing Cost Recovery System

UnipriNT is a network printing cost recovery system that utilizes the University's Action Card to charge users for laser print copies. The tremendous waste associated with unlimited free printing combined with educational budget constraints make this system a financial necessity.

The need for a network cost recovery system

UnipriNT utilizes the Action Card Bama Cash system to return printing revenues to departments, thereby recovering the cost of consumables such as paper, toner, fuser kits, etc. High speed laser printer output has become the standard for printing in a research oriented environment. Students utlizing web based research components such as databases, on-line reference materials, study notes, etc. is driving ever increasing demand for printed materials. Wasted printing and supplies have become more prevalent in recent semesters. UnipriNT cost recovery will enable many locations to begin offering full color network printing which has not been available to students.

The proposed cost of printing is 5 cents for each b&w single sided 8.5 x 11 laser print.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How does UnipriNT work?

At the computer workstation, click on the print button, name your print job and release the file to a nearby print station. Swipe your Action Card in the card reader located at the print station, then, identify your job from the list held in queue on the screen. The number of pages and cost for printing will appear after your file is selected. If you decide to cancel simply select "exit." If you wish to proceed, click "print."

What are the other options to printing?

Email articles to yourself that you can print or read from the screen later at home.

Download the articles or documents to a disk to print or read later.

Does my student technology fee cover printing?

The student technology fee becomes part of the University's operating budget and cannot cover the expense of unlimited printing within the Computer Labs or in the University Libraries.

What if someone else prints my job?

Each job is identified by a job name that you attach. If someone should print a job that is not theirs, the cost will be deducted from their card and the file must be resubmitted.

What if the job I wanted is not printed properly?

Please see the lab monitor for assistance.

Can I stop a print job before it is complete if I see that what is printing is not something I want any longer?

Once you have approved a print job it cannot be stopped. Be sure to verify the number of pages you have sent to the printer before approving it.
